About

Grades K & 1

Let's speak Spanish! During this 10-week program, which includes all materials, children learn while having fun. Spanish is taught through an interactive retelling of well-known children’s folktales. Bright and cheerful visuals, flashcards and puppets spark the children’s imagination. Singing, role-play, games, body movements and hands–on activities are part of each lesson.

The Foreign Language in Elementary Schools Program (FLES) began in 1975 in Montgomery County , Maryland, when foreign language instruction was eliminated from the county’s public elementary school curriculum. At that time many parents in the community agreed with education research that strongly affirms the benefits of early childhood exposure to foreign language.
